Controls and Keybinds

Complete control reference for EverQuest Legends — movement, combat, hotbar setup, Loadout switching, targeting, and recommended keybind layouts for PC.

Beta content — balance may change before launch.

Default Movement and Camera

EverQuest Legends uses classic first-person MMORPG controls on PC. W/A/S/D moves your character forward, strafe left, backward, and strafe right. Hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to look around and adjust camera angle. The mouse wheel zooms in and out. Spacebar toggles auto-run forward — essential for long zone traversals across Antonica, Faydwer, and Odus.

Jump defaults to the spacebar when not auto-running (rebind to avoid conflict). Crouch lowers your hitbox for tight dungeon passages. Swim controls activate automatically in water zones — hold forward to surface, backward to dive. Configure invert mouse and camera sensitivity in the Options menu under Display settings.

Legends supports modern quality-of-life movement options including click-to-move (optional) and adjustable turn rate. Most veteran EverQuest players disable click-to-move and rely on keyboard turning for precise positioning during pulls and dungeon navigation. New players should experiment with both styles during the starter zone before committing to keybinds.

Combat and Targeting

Tab cycles through nearby targets — the classic EverQuest tab-target system. F8 targets your last attacker (essential for recovering aggro). F9 targets the nearest NPC. Left-click a mob to target it directly. Backspace clears your current target.

Combat abilities activate from hotbar slots bound to 1 through 0 on the number row, with Shift and Ctrl modifiers extending to thirty slots per hotbar page. Right-click an ability icon to auto-attack with melee or wands. Casters hold right-click to begin spell casting on the targeted mob.

With three classes and multiple Loadouts, you will manage more abilities than a classic single-class character. Use multiple hotbar pages and Loadout-specific layouts to keep essential buttons reachable. The multiclass and loadouts guide recommends organizing abilities by Loadout role rather than class origin.

Hotbar and Loadout Switching

Legends provides expandable hotbars accessible via Alt+1 through Alt+0 for page switching. Drag abilities from your spellbook or skill window onto hotbar slots. Each Loadout saves its own hotbar configuration — switching Loadouts swaps both abilities and layout simultaneously.

Bind Loadout switching to accessible keys near your movement cluster. Recommended defaults: backtick key for Loadout 1 (Tank), Shift+backtick for Loadout 2 (Heal), Ctrl+backtick for Loadout 3 (DPS). Adjust based on your most frequent role. Loadout switching has a brief cooldown — plan switches during downtime between pulls, not mid-cast.

Item clicks (potions, clicky gear effects) occupy hotbar slots like abilities. Place health and mana potions on every Loadout's utility bar. Exaltation proc items and merged gear click effects should appear on Loadouts where they synergize — a lifetap proc item on your Tank Loadout, haste clicky on your DPS Loadout.

Interface and Social Controls

Enter opens chat. Prefix commands with //ooc for out-of-character, /shout for zone-wide, /group or /g for group chat, /tell [name] for whispers. H toggles the social menu for inviting, following, and inspecting other players.

I opens inventory. C opens the character stat window. B opens the spellbook (abilities from all three classes appear here). Shift+B opens the Loadout management screen. Esc closes windows and cancels casting. Print Screen captures screenshots — Legends supports ultrawide and 4K resolutions.

Configure UI scale in Options if playing on high-resolution monitors. Drag UI elements (hotbars, player frame, target frame, group window) to preferred positions. Save UI layouts per character since multiclass characters benefit from different frame arrangements per Loadout role.

Recommended Keybind Setup

For tank Loadouts: bind taunt, defensive disciplines, and emergency heals on 1–4 (easiest reach). Offensive abilities on 5–8. Utility and potions on 9–0. For healer Loadouts: direct heals on 1–3, group heals on 4–5, cures and buffs on 6–8. For DPS Loadouts: primary damage rotation on 1–5, cooldowns on 6–8, utility on 9–0.

Bind Loadout switch, target nearest NPC (F9), and target last attacker (F8) within one hand's reach of WASD. These three bindings see the most combat use after ability keys. Consider a gaming mouse with side buttons for Loadout switching if your keyboard layout feels crowded with thirty-plus ability bindings across three classes.

Import and export keybind profiles through the Options menu to share configurations with friends or transfer settings between characters. Before launch day, review controls alongside the getting started guide and set up your first Loadout hotbars so you are combat-ready in the starter zone.
